WIWW- What I Wore Wednesday #30

Welcome to another addition of figuring out how to dress with my shrinking wardrobe. Let me just say how happy I am that long shirts have been in fashion the past couple of years because I don’t know what I would do without them. I have a bunch of tees and tank tops that I already had in my wardrobe that are just as long and stretchy as the maternity ones I bought.

Despite those options, many of my other shirts aren’t long enough anymore so I’ve been trying to plan multiple versions of my outfits so I can adapt quickly when the shirt I planned to wear is suddenly too short. Stretchy knit skirts are really keeping me going. I have lots of mix and match options with my multitude of colored cardigans so I don’t have to feel like I’m wearing the same outfit over and over again.

teal, grey and white stripes

Cardigan- Target (Similar), Skirt- Gap Maternity, Tank- Kohl’s Oh Baby Maternity, Necklace- Made by me, Shoes- Target

Love this Gap Maternity skirt, if I haven’t mentioned it before. I was worried it would look too casual for work but it looks good dressed up with a cardigan and statement necklace. A statement necklace is my go to piece for making an outfit work appropriate.

blue and mint

Cardigan- Target (Similar), Tank- Gap Maternity, Skirt- Gap Maternity, Necklace- Groopdealz, Shoes- Target

I was actually freezing all day in this outfit. It was in the upper 60s and I was dressed for much warmer weather. I mentioned it on Monday but it has been surprisingly cool for July and I just wasn’t prepared for that.

Here’s a side shot of my growing belly in case you were wondering :)

purple and yellow

Cardigan- Old Navy (Similar), Tank- Cold Water Creek, Pants- Target Liz Lange Maternity, Necklace- Groopdealz, Shoes- Target

I dressed much more weather appropriate this day. Still not in love with the full panel maternity pants but there isn’t much choice in my wardrobe for pants these days so I’m trying to get used to them.

pink and black

Cardigan- Target (Similar), Tank- Kohl’s Oh Baby Maternity, Capris- Motherhood Maternity via Clothes Mentor (Similar), Necklace- Garage Sale, Shoes- Target

This is my it’s Friday, I’m tired, what shirt actually fits over these pants outfit. I think that sums it up.

Mid July Garden Blooms

I can’t believe that July is almost over. We have been having the craziest weather so it doesn’t really seem like summer. Last week we had a heat wave and this week it has been really cool. I have been dressing like it’s early spring or fall and we’ve been able to have the windows in the house open all day. I’m not complaining. I‘m much rather have this weather than temps in the 90’s. I consider myself lucky to be pregnant during one of the coolest summers we have had in a while :)

The garden is in full summer bloom. This is the time of the year where I don’t get as many new kinds of blooms. Instead I have my long time bloomers going crazy. My black eyed Susan is starting to get a bit out of control so I will probably have to dig a few clumps out next year to keep it in check. It’s such a beautiful plant but it spreads very easily. In my tiny front garden bed I need to be diligent about keeping the spreaders where I want them to be or they will take over.

My purple coneflower looks amazing this year. It finally really took off and it’s much bigger with more blooms than I’ve ever had before. It looks great next to the black eyed Susan.

My day lilies are looking great this year too. They have had a ton of blooms and the bloom time has been the longest yet. They were really slow to grow when I first planted them so it’s exciting to see them finally doing well.

WIWW- What I Wore Wednesday #29

black dress with pearls

Dress-Thrifted: Merona by Target (Similar, Similar Maternity), Necklace- Gift, Shoes- Target

I have too many black dresses. I went to put on one of the ones that fit me a couple of weeks ago and it just wasn’t working right so I pulled this one out. I haven’t worn it since I’ve been pregnant because I have two others that looked good. I should have worn it sooner because it fits me really well. It’s not maternity but there is just enough ruching around the belly to make room for it without making the front of the dress shorter than the back. It was a very exciting discovery for me :)

black and white striped dress

Dress- Motherhood Maternity (Similar), Necklace- Sassy Steals, Shoes- Target

Although you can’t really tell, I am actually wearing a necklace in this picture. I wish Motherhood Maternity had this same style of dress in other colors because it fits so well and it’s really comfy. I ended up putting on a cardigan at work because my office is like an ice box and I learned my lesson the day before. It may be sweltering outside but that only means it’s colder inside.

pink and black and white stripes

Cardigan-Target (Similar), Tank- Old Navy (Similar, Similar Maternity), Skirt- Target Maternity, Shoes- Kohl’s, Necklace- Garage Sale

I wore a lot of black and white this week. I guess I wasn’t feeling that adventurous with my color choices. Bigger belly, shrinking closet. I actually do have lots of color in my wardrobe still but it was a hot and tired week for me so that leaves little time for thinking of creative color combos :)

And here’s the growing side bump shot. I’m starting to get helpful strangers offer to take my cart for me at the store more often. Definitely a nice perk!

It’s Getting Hot and 24 Week Bump Update

I guess we have been spoiled by having such a cool summer until this past week. The temps got into the upper 90’s and this pregnant lady was really feeling it. I didn’t realize how much the heat could effect me until I found myself camped out on the couch in the air conditioning for the entire hot spell. Even the upper 70s with high humidity was too much for me. All I can say is that I’m very grateful we have central air and it’s definitely working hard for me this summer!

Mike and I had a quiet weekend but it cooled off enough for us to go to the local Italian fest on Saturday night. Our city has it every year where a bunch of food vendors with a (mostly) Italian theme show up along with some games, music and other random booths. We don’t typically go down because the food is pricey and the crowds are huge. This year we were looking for some local fun and yummy food so we went. It was really all about the food. We each got a sausage and split a Stromboli and then went crazy at the Italian bakery. We ate by the river and spent our last two dollars trying out the new local cupcake place. It was completely overpriced but we had a great time.

At my last doctor’s appointment I also took and passed my glucose test. No worrying about gestational diabetes! My latest pregnancy symptom though is awful heartburn. My doctor recommended I start taking Pepcid and it’s already helping. She said it will only get worse so I have that to look forward too :) I’ve been trying to prop myself up a little bit more at night at that helps a little too.

I am starting to think I need some kind of pregnancy pillow to help keep myself on my side at night. I’m currently sleeping with a pillow in between my knees but it’s really not cutting it. My doctor said to try and avoid rolling on my back by tucking a pillow behind me too. Plus I’m trying to elevate myself for the heartburn so one of those big pregnancy pillows is looking pretty appealing right now. I also am considering just getting a regular body pillow because they are so much cheaper. Not sure if the pregnancy one is worth the money but I definitely need some kind of sleeping solution.

The baby had been moving around a lot and his kicks are getting stronger. Mike had his hand on my belly the other night when we were lying in bed and he could really feel our little guy going crazy. He is more active at night, especially when I’m lying in bed but I feel him most of the day unless I doing a lot of walking around. I can see him kicking from the outside of my belly now which is pretty cool. Can’t wait until we get to meet him :)

Baby Project Ideas

Do you ever go to search for something on Pinterest and an hour (or more!) later you can’t even remember what you were looking for in the first place? I was looking for baby ideas for this post, got overwhelmed and had to take a breather to figure out what I was even trying to accomplish. I wanted to gather a list of ideas for what I want to make in the next 16 weeks. I like to start projects early but usually wait until the last minute to finish them so I need a game plan.

I have made tons of baby hats for my friends and family and now it’s my turn :) I don’t want to go too overboard but there are three hats I am thinking of making right now.

I love this hat from Alli Crafts. It’s a simple little bear beanie and I have this same yarn in my stash. I have always wanted to make it for a baby but never had the right opportunity.

newborn crochet owl hat pattern

I definitely need to make an owl hat. It’s my go to baby hat present and I’ve made so many of them. I don’t have these color in my stash but I have all the colors from this version.

crochet owl hat

Crochet football helmet hat pattern, Browns

Mike’s request was for a Browns hat. I’ve posted a toddler pattern before but I don’t have a newborn one so I will have to come up with one.

An owl mobile like this one from Home Made by Jill. Of course it won’t be in the same colors and I probably won’t add flowers but I really like her versions of the owls and tree. I considered making a crochet one but I don’t have all the colors I want and it will be cheaper to buy sheets of felt than whole skeins of yarn.

A tree canvas like this one from Simply Modern Mom. We need some art on one of the walls and I love this canvas. She made the leaves out of magazine pages. I think it will go really well with our owl theme. We even have some canvases already in the basement for a project that never happened.

Some book shelves like these ones from DIY College Ideas. Mike loves this idea but I am a little leary about gluing a book to the invisible bracket.

I’m more of a fan of these floating shelves made from Ikea spice racks from A Good Life.

We also might just end up buying some floating bookshelves from Lowes. We still need a place to display my soon to be spray painted owls. I have this exact ugly looking one I bought at the dollar store after I saw it on Sugar Bee Crafts, plus a different one I found at the thrift store. I found a third one at a garage sale but he is actually cute and probably won’t get spray painted.

And if that all wasn’t enough I’m thinking about making a blanket. This one has me kind of stumped though. I’m not sure if I want to make something to match the room or just something I like. I’m sure we will get tons of blankets at out shower but I want something special too that I made for the baby.

I love this crochet pattern from Three Beans in a Pod.

Crochet Chevron Baby Blanket

The chevron blanket I made in this post was so quick to crochet.

Minky Baby Blanket Tutorial from PracticallyFunctional.net

I also really like this minky blanket from Practically Functional. It looks so simple and easy.

Now to get going on some hats! I haven’t crocheted anything in while so I need to get reacquainted with my hooks :)

WIWW- What I Wore Wednesday #28

orange and navy

Shirt- Target, Cardigan- Lands End, Pants- Garage Sale: Motherhood Maternity, Necklace- Gift, Shoes- Kohl’s

Hooray for long style shirts. This one is not maternity but it’s just as long as the maternity shirts that I’ve bought. This is a good color combo I’ve worn in the past so I was happy to wear it again.

printed dress

Dress- Macy’s, Cardigan- Thrifted: Ann Taylor (Similar), Shoes- Target, Bracelet- Target

I think this dress’s days are numbered. It still fits over my belly but the front is getting to be shorter than the back. I’ll give it another try once it makes it’s way into the outfit rotation again but I’m not sure it will still fit right.

navy and green striped skirt

Cardigan- Target (Similar), Shirt- Target (Similar), Skirt- Thrifted: Old Navy (Similar Stripes, Similar Solids) Necklace- Ten Thousand Villages, Shoes- Kohl’s

I’m working hard to find ways to style this skirt. I think I might try it with the navy cardigan next. I wish I had a green one similar to the stripe in this skirt. I have my eye out for one since it’s one of the few colored cardigans I don’t own.

oatmeal and blue

Cardigan- Target (Similar), Shirt- Target, Capris- Motherhood Maternity via Clothes Mentor (Similar), Shoes- Target, Bracelets- Gabriel Brothers

Not sure if I like the loose shirt look as much as the fitted one but I like how it skims over the waist band on these pants instead of accentuating it.

pink tank and yellow shoes

Shirt- Kohl’s Oh Baby Maternity, Shorts- Motherhood Maternity, Shoes- Kohl’s

Here is my super casual weekend errands outfit. I love these shorts I got at the Motherhood Maternity inside of Macy’s when I was in DC. (I’ve seen them in the regular Motherhood stores too.) They have elastic in place of pockets and sit under my belly so I don’t feel constricted by the full panel. Plus they look cute too.

If you think these shoes don’t match please don’t tell me because I’m convinced they go with everything. I got them on super clearance a year or two ago and I really wanted white or black but this was the only color left. After I bought them I fell in love with the yellow and I wear them all the time with pretty much anything.

Weekend Work in the Veggie Garden

It is finally feeling like summer around here. The temps are soaring into the 80s and 90s and I am so thankful we have air conditioning. Mike has been working on replacing some of the boards on our front porch and he finished up by painting it yesterday. We just replaced the boards on the side since we are sticking to a budget this summer for house projects since our baby boy will be here in 16 1/2 short weeks. It looks a million times better and I won’t be worried about having our little guy run around out there someday.

I did some major work in the veggie garden on Sunday. Maybe it was the warm temps that limbered me up but I felt surprisingly flexible with all the bending and stooping I did. I harvested all of our onions and garlic. I bundled them up with twine and hung them to dry in the garage. If we had space I would lay them out on a screen but the past couple of years just hanging them up in small bunches has worked well for me. I had to make sure and hang them high enough to keep them out of Abby’s reach since last year she picked off a few onions and had a tasty snack.

My onion harvest was pretty good but I should have spaced them out a little better since a few of them were touching. I wasn’t that pleased with the garlic but I don’t think I used really big cloves when I planted them so I will be on the lookout for a better starter crop this summer. I like to buy my garlic at a local farmers market. There is a local farm that grows organic garlic in a bunch of varieties and it’s what I’ve planted the last two years. I also trimmed the scapes off really late so that might have contributed to the smaller cloves.

I also did some trimming in my herb garden and hung some bunches to dry. I’m trying to work a little harder to preserve my harvest this year. I collected oregano, lemon thyme, regular thyme, mint and dill. My regular thyme is not looking too perky right now so I tried to give it a good haircut to hopefully rejuvenate it. It might just be the time of the year but I will keep my eye on it. I threw down some dill seeds in an open spot from the onions to try and grow some more dill for drying.

I am hoping we start seeing some tomatoes ripen up pretty soon. I bought Early Girl this year but they don’t seem to be that early to me. I am also hoping for some beans pretty soon. They have been flowering like crazy but no big bean pods yet.

Here are some pictures I took two weeks ago so things have progressed a bit since then but I still wanted to share.

WIWW- What I Wore Wednesday #27

red with black and white polka dots

Cardigan- Thrifted: Target (Similar), Tank- Old Navy, Skirt- Gap Maternity, Shoes- Target, Necklace- Thrifted, Belt- Thrifted

My new maternity work uniform seems to be very similar to my old one: cardigan, tank and skirt/ pants. It’s a formula that is still working for me, only now my bottoms are all maternity. Luckily, most of my tanks are still working for me since they are on the longer side.

printed dress and blue cardigan

Dress- Thrifted, Cardigan- Target, Shoes- Target, Necklace-Gift

Not sure how much longer this dress is going to fit me since it’s starting to get tight in the chest area. I was excited to find a different cardigan to pair it with since my go to color has always been black.

orange and grey

T shirt- Target, Skirt- Gap Maternity, Bracelet- not sure, Shoes- Kohl’s

I wore this out to dinner on the Fourth of July. This skirt is so comfy it is going to be a staple for me this summer. Plus it goes with almost everything in my closet.

neutral and black

Cardigan- Target (Similar), Tank- Old Navy, Pants- Motherhood Maternity via Clothes Mentor (Similar), Necklace- Ten Thousand Villages, Shoes- Target

Are you noticing a trend with these flat yet? They are so so comfy. I haven’t had much desire to wear heels and these flats seem to go with everything. I would love another pair so Target needs to hurry up and put them on sale again.

And here’s a side shot of the growing bump. I stood kind of close to the camera in this picture so it looks enormous to me here :)

Fourth of July Weekend and 22 Week Bump Update

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July. Mike and I celebrated by spending time with family and friends. It was the first weekend in a long time I actually wanted to hang out and stay up later than 10:00 pm. It felt good to spend time with our friends again but it definitely wore me out. My energy level had increased but it still gets depleted much faster than I want it too. My body is working hard to grow our little guy and it’s not going to let me forget it!

Mike and I spend a long session registering at Babies R Us two weekends ago. I went in there with a plan and end up leaving tired and overwhelmed and needing a two hour nap. There is just so much baby stuff out there. I had a list I didn’t even bother looking at because we just walked up and down the aisles instead and looked at almost everything in the store. Having access online was really nice to add what we forgot or change items out for different brands. I still go back over our registry every couple of days to make sure I have the brands I want and I can’t stop reading Amazon reviews.

We’ve already been accumulating a lot of baby stuff but I still feel like our registry had tons of items on it. I’ve picked up a couple of things at garage sales or the baby consignment shop in my town and we’ve been given some hand me downs and stuff to borrow plus Mike’s mom had bought us a few things. We have a pile started in the basement to accumulate it all in one place.

There is no one size fits all when it come to baby stuff because everyone has a different opinion about what worked for their baby and most of the time they are completely contradictory. How’s a first time mom supposed to cut through all of the opinions to find the best stuff for her baby? I’ll let you know if I ever figure it out.

So here’s some bump progress pictures. I may not be that big yet but I sure feel like I am because I am losing my mobility. I have trouble getting off of the couch or out of a bench seat at a restaurant. When Mike and I walk the dogs I am way behind him. I used to wait for him to catch up and now I let Abby drag me up the hill on the last part of our walk. I toss and turn at night trying to get comfortable. My back hurts, my insides feel squished, and I feel worn out from lugging this belly around at the end of the day. Besides this little rant I’m feeling the best I have so far throughout this pregnancy and I can’t wait for this little guy to get here in 18 weeks. I feel him moving around all the time reminding me that the hard part is going to be worth it in the end :)
